As some of you may know, that time period was a tough time for the economy, after Jimmy Carter was finished with us. Anyway, here is what the article had to say.

A Tale of Two Houses- This is a Must Read!

Filed under: Other on Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 by DreamTeamAssociates | 2 Comments

Al Gore’s RanchHouse #1- A 20-room mansion ( not including 8 bathrooms ) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool ( and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400. per month. In natural gas alone, this property co nsumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern “snow belt” area. It’s in the South.

President Bush’s RanchHouse #2- Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every “green” feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet ( 4 bedrooms ) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground.

The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000-gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the hou se. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.

You probably also know that you would much rather have that money go towards your own home rather then paying someone elses mortgage payment every month. The problem with most renters isn’t that they can’t make the payments on a home. The problem is that many just can’t seem to save up enough money for a down payment on their own home.

The truth is you can actually buy a home with a lot less money then you may think.  Read the rest of this entry »

Renters Beware!!

If you are a renter, you need to be very careful. A recent news article I read shows that many renters are being forced out of their homes due to the property going in to foreclosure. Even those renters who are in good standing and current with their payments could be left out in the cold if the owner is in default of their mortgage. After the owners of the rental properties receive their notice of foreclosure, it often leaves a couple of months to less than a week before the property must be evacuated.
